What the heck is this thing? Does it have web access? Does it check Facebook? Can it update my twitter?

The above picture was taken by my long time friend Branden Kerr. Branden was down in Florida for a convention, and we met up and walked around the mall next to the convention with Caressa and my son Caden. While we where there my son saw this weird looking box. I handed him the phone, and he put it up to his ear. The only reason he knew to do that was from playing with my cell phone. The look on his face is not because he doesn't know who is on the other line, but more of a what the heck am I holding here!

This got me thinking. Things are changing so quick that there are tons of things that will look weird to my son. To be honest...the phone booth looked weird to me...almost out of place. What the heck, I haven't seen one of these in about 10 yrs! Branden and I started talking about how we would put in a number, hang up the phone 3 times and it would ring the phone back! We couldn't think of the number exactly, but if we wanted to we could have googled it on our smart phones that where tucked in out freaking pockets!!!!!! Things like this make me feel really old!!! The fact that something so important is now so obsolete. This thing used to be the only way my aunt would know to come pick my cousin and I up form the Seaside Heights boardwalk after a day of surfing! Now I know you can say every generation goes through this! But I think the rate in which this happens is increasing. Some day my son will look at my cell phone and laugh!

Trash the WHAT?

Written by // Rich Johnson Categories // In My Humble Opinion

Although I think we are at the tail end of a photo trend that has seen better days. I would like to chat a little about the trash the dress session, and the somewhat amusing reactions I get or see when the topic is mentioned. From the overly concerned mom, to the oh to eager bride, willing to jump in a pile of whatever you put in front of her.

Why so negative?

Well first off it's called a trash the dress session. How could you not think of something negative when the word trash is used. Hey you going to eat that trash, man it looks good! Plus why would you ever trash something that you wore on one of the most special moments of your life? The answer to that question comes easy for some and not so easy for others. The traditional mothers HATE even the acronym of the session!

Here is my take on it!

You don't have to literally trash your dress. The way I put it to couples is "It gives us an opportunity to relax and get pictures that we would be unable to get during your busy wedding day". I don't always suggest a trash the dress session, some couples just are not cut out for it. Being a photographer you would think I would try and pitch and sell it to people who didn't even get married!

Here is another idea!

Buy a new dress! Most of our brides cant even imagine walking in a pond with their wedding dress on. So they go to a dress shop and buy a $99 dress and trash that instead! Love it or Hate it! If you are ready to take the next step into the crazy world of trash the dress, then make sure you have a photographer who has experience with this kind of session. You have be 100% that they are going to capture the moment as it happens. There is very little posing in most TTD session...

Here are a few of my Favorite Trash the dress sessions!
